Sonar systems

Ultra’s Sonar & Communication Systems business is supplying the Medium Frequency Sonar for the Royal Navy’s new Type 45 destroyer. This sensitive bow-mounted sonar system is a key element of the ship’s defences and will detect submarines or mines in the area. Ocean Systems developed and supplies the high frequency sonar sail array for the US submarine fleet. A derivative sonar system is protecting the underwater intakes of hydroelectric plant from the ingestion of migrating fish. Maritime Systems manufactures advanced towed array sensors for the Canadian DND and for the UK, and a variety of surface ship towed and deployable high power acoustic projectors and receiver systems. Sonar & Communication Systems also supplies a range of sidescan sonars for military and civil applications including hydrographic survey systems and bathymetric sonars that perform sub-bottom profiling and use synthetic aperture techniques to increase resolution. Maritime Systems provides consultancy, training, support and calibration services in the areas of sonar and hydro-acoustics.
