Naval power systems

PMES specialises in naval power conversion and control products and low voltage sub-systems. For naval vessels, solid-state electrical power supplies are more flexible and tolerant of battle damage than hydraulic systems as well as being more reliable, smaller and lighter than rotary converters. Products supplied by PMES and by EMS Development Corporation include a range of inverters and converters, solid-state frequency converters, variable speed drives and bespoke power supplies as well as specialist control consoles. PMES also offers the aircraft ground services system, a sub-system that provides electrical power to support aircraft whilst they are on-board ships. All PMES products meet the requirement for the highest quality and integrity of supply. One example is equipment that powers part of the nuclear reactor control system for submarines. Current developments include the gas turbine electric start system that replaces traditional hydraulic and pneumatic gas turbine start systems with an electric drive and motor.
