Ultra has a world-leading capability in the modelling, measurement and control of ships' magnetic signatures. This capability, available at both PMES and EMS Development Corporation, allows Ultra's customers to minimise the magnetic and electric profile of a vessel.
– modelling Ultra can model and predict the magnetic and electric signature of a ship's design. Both EMS Development Corporation and PMES can work with the ship's designer to optimise the placement of de-gaussing coils and to minimise system weight and installation cost.
– sensors PMES supplies a range of magnetic sensors with uses that include magnetic ranges, heading reference systems, towed arrays and unmanned air and underwater vehicles. PMES also manufactures gradiometers for on-board degaussing of naval vessels as well as electric field sensors for underwater use in signature control and while prospecting for oil and gas.
– degaussing systems Both EMS Development Corporation and PMES supply on-board automatic degaussing systems that continuously minimise a ship's signature so as to prevent the triggering of magnetic influence mines that may litter coastal waters in times of war. The ship's electric field can similarly be minimised.
– measurement ranges PMES is a leading supplier of underwater fixed and portable multi-influence signature measurement range systems. Influences measured include magnetic, electric, acoustic, seismic and pressure. The ranges are suitable for use in the open ocean, in shallow water and for harbour entrance applications.
