Gas turbine electric start systems

Ultra’s PMES business has developed and qualified an electric starting system for naval or civil gas turbines. On a naval vessel, the traditional hydraulic or pneumatic gas turbine start systems are complex, costly and heavy. The PMES solution, comprising a power dense motor and drive, is inherently smaller, lighter and more cost-effective. The Ultra solution has, to date, successfully started not only the latest generation naval gas turbines, designed for use by both the US Navy and the Royal Navy, but also those utilised for industrial applications.
